Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time in my pregnancy to do this?

That is really up to you. Some women have their cast made earlier so their bowl takes up less space, while others want the bowl to truly capture the size of their bump as their delivery date approaches.  One average, most women I see are between 7 - 8 1/2 months pregnant. I can make your cast as late as you'd like, but I do warn against waiting until the very last minute just in case your baby decides to come a early.  =)

Can you come to my baby shower/gender reveal party to do the belly casting?

Yes!  Making a belly cast is a super fun activity for baby showers, and a great way to let your family and friends literally have a hand in making your bowl!  Please contact me for more information.

How long will it take to make my Maternity Bowl?

Making the cast of your belly takes less than 10 minutes.  Once I have your cast, the actual bowl takes 6-8 weeks to complete.

What type of payment methods do you accept and when is payment due?

You can pay via PayPal, Visa, Discover, American Express, or Mastercard.  You can also pay in cash if we are making your cast in person.  Payment is due in full at the time of your casting appointment.  If you are making the cast yourself, payment is due in full when you place your order for the casting kit.

I have an old cast from several years ago.  Can you use it to make a bowl?

Yes, I can make bowls from old casts.  Please contact me for details.  :)

Where are the castings done?

I am a mobile service so castings can be done in-home or at a mutual meeting space in Round Rock (fees may apply) or Leander. If you live outside of Austin, or if you prefer to make the cast yourself with my casting kit, the entire process can be done by mail.

Am I able to purchase more than one bowl for a discount?

Yes!  Once I have your cast, I can make as many bowls as you'd like.  Maternity bowls make great gifts for grandparents, relatives, and close friends.  Each additional bowl is 10% off of the price of the original bowl.

What is your return/refund policy?

If you are unsatisfied, you can return your bowl + cast within 3 days for a refund.

I want my bowl to look EXACTLY like the one in your photo gallery. Can you replicate a bowl you've already created?

The short answer is no, I can't guarantee that any bowl will look identical to ones in my photos.  I can use the same color schemes, but clay and glaze (which is the "paint") are natural materials from the environment.  These bowls are fired three times at up to 2000 degrees.  Humidity, the amount of water in each batch of clay, and even the number of bowls in the kiln effect how each bowl  and color scheme comes out.  No two bowls will be alike - but this is also what makes every bowl so awesome.  :)

Your video says Maternity Bowls can be made for people anywhere in the country, even though you are located in Austin.  How does that work?

If you live in another city or state but want to order a Maternity Bowl, I will send you a casting kit with instructions on how to make your cast.  Making the cast is a very simple process that takes less than 10 minutes.  Once your cast is dry, you can drop it in the mail and ship it back to me.  I will make the bowl from your cast and send it back as soon as your bowl is complete, which is usually 6-8 weeks.

Will the bowl be an exact replica of my cast?

You may notice your bowl is slightly smaller in some places when comparing it to your cast. This difference in size/shape is from the natural shrinkage rate of clay, which contains water.  Your bowl is fired three times, up to 2000 degrees, so shrinkage rates may vary between 2% - 4%.  You will receive your original cast back with your bowl, so you will still have at least one exact replica.

I own a store/birth business.  Can we partner with you for a group casting event at our facility?

Yes!  Group casting events are one of my favorite things to do!  :) Please contact me for details.

What is involved in making my cast?  Is the casting material safe for my skin?

The casting process is very simple, and yes - it is safe for your skin. First, petroleum jelly is applied to your baby bump.  Next, non-toxic, skin-safe, hobby grade plaster casting strips are applied directly on to your belly. Once the cast is dry, it slips right off of your belly!  The entire casting process takes less than 10 minutes.
